I work with a small number of clients with whom I’ve developed a deep level of mutual trust and respect. Values which, as a qualified accountant, I regard highly. I operate on a consultative basis providing a steer to the managing director or as a non-executive director to the board.
It means I can directly and honestly speak to the business owner which I believe is appreciated. The key to future growth for many small businesses is the investment in talented employees coupled with a smart use of technology.
I was fortunate to get a role with Ananova, a “bleeding edge” media technology company during the early internet boom. They were acquired by telecoms company Orange at a time of the first downloadable mobile content. Orange asked me to set up & manage a team to handle the billing and data management with an ever increasing number of third party content providers.
Moving out of corporate life, I co-founded Physiobench, an innovative online physiotherapy practice with a network of specialists supporting active sportspeople, in particular cyclists wanting to manage their own recovery from injury. After 6 successful years, we decided to close the site to new orders following the death of our specialist cycling physio.
More recently I’ve taken joint ownership of Perception Credit Solutions, a new financial technology company serving loan companies, community finance houses & challenger banks with a modular customer & financial management platform coupled with advanced business analytics & reporting.
I’ve been married for over 20 years to Jane. We’ve travelled to many mountainous parts of the world and have run or walked over all the Scottish mountains together before starting a family. Fiona and Lewis are now at High School but ever since they were young, we have sought out adventurous places to visit together.
If you’ve decided to take on a graduate, once I’ve scoped out the project or role with you, in some cases I call on Sarah to mentor the graduate through the project.
We have worked together since 2014 jointly running several Enterprise Exchange events. Sarah has a great way of getting the best out of the graduates.
Sarah runs her own business under two trading names. Grow Up Life helps Young Adults and Graduates through a time in their lives when they face some of their most life impacting decisions, with the aim of encouraging people to take hold of their own future and be intentional about their decision making instead of allowing circumstance to dictate it for them.
Up Your Business supports SME’s local to the Leeds area through their business problems by utilising the existing expertise within their business. This helps whole teams come together to improve their business provoking empowerment, ownership and engagement.
I call on Tracy’s skills where your business needs some help with the monthly accounts, year end or investigation into why figures don’t appear right.
She has a strong disciplined approach to getting the figures right and delivering the results on time. Her teaching background means she works really well with client staff. Generally I’d look for her to work alongside existing staff who don’t have all the necessary financial or analytical skills.
With Tracy operating as a part time Financial Controller at my clients, it means I can focus on being the right hand man to the Managing Director providing an alternative assessment of the business from a more analytical & financial angle.
Tracy runs her own business Proactive FS Limited, trading as EFM. She is also a tutor at a further education college, so her time is very much in demand.
